THE World Trade Fiasco IS OVER!
Relief, elation, gratitude. All of these are coursing through my veins as I type this. All of the international shipments were completed today. Thanks to Ben! This was a disaster in the making earlier this week as I attempted to get books shipped to those of you overseas, or even across the northern border. The pricing I was getting was absolutely ludicrous.
After attempting to ship the Canadian books, I was seriously considering driving to northern New Hampshire and chucking them over the fence to the recipients on the other side. Or alternatively buying a cheap drone and flying them over, which would likely land me in federal prison. If you are not aware, you will find it intriguing to learn that there is something incredibly broken with the logistics industry and I’ll highlight why.
BODIES ARE CHEAPER THAN BOXES
Yup, you read that headline correctly, with a bit of nuance. The books going to Austria, France, and Belgium, were coming in at $200 to $300 USD for each box. These boxes in particular were 1 book in each package. Out of curiosity, I had Google Gemini look up flights from Boston to Vienna (at the cheapest time of year). The price came in at $600 round trip. It would cost less for me to fly to Vienna and hand out books to the people there, than to ship them…

Luckily, Ben saved the day and offered me a solution that was much more reasonable, albeit still a bit expensive. Ben has owned a few companies that had to ship product, and he suggested I try PirateShip. Late last night I created an account on their site and within 30 minutes I was off and running. This cut the cost of shipping to the EU by 60 to 70%, Canada 50%, and Australia by 70%. The site is super easy to use once you get it running, and even offered different carriers so I could compare pricing. Enter the recipient info, customs form, size/weight, and print the labels right at home. Super slick. Everyone thank Ben for hooking us up and saving the day!
